Colchester Success Stories

Stacie Winter, 18 years old, Entry to Employment (E2E)
I came to do LEAP straight from school, I hadn’t taken any GCSE’s and didn’t really know what I wanted to do.
During my course I have gained 5 qualifications and worked on all sorts of projects.
I learnt baby massage, made cakes and have been on tasks outside of college. I did some work in the office and have helped other students with their work.
I’ve been on trips to Madam Tussauds, London Dungeons and Thorpe Park as well as Go Bananas and Bowling.
I now have two part time jobs, and am considering an NVQ in Childcare.

Sacha Willats, 17 years old, E2E
I moved to Colchester to live independently when I left school. I had no formal qualifications as I didn’t sit my GCSE’s at school. I was advised to come to LEAP by Connexions.
Just as my course began, I found out that I was expecting a baby. I was nervous that I wouldn't be allowed to continue but  the tutors were very supportive.
I worked hard and achieved Qualifications in CLAIT, Numeracy,  Literacy and ASDAN.
With help from the LEAP staff I have got a place on the Beauty Therapy course at Colchester Institute. They have also helped me get funding for childcare for my baby and to find a day nursery to care for her while I study.

Nico Hughes, 18 years old, E2E
When I came to LEAP I was looking for employment within the sports industry. I didn’t really think I needed to worry about my qualifications.
Along the way I have taken part in two football tournaments, one of which I arranged. I have been on lots of fun trips and met new friends.
I have gained my Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 1 qualifications as well as ASDAN and Challenge Awards and my CLAIT Certificate.
With the help of the tutors I secured a college place at Otley and an Apprenticeship with Colchester United. I have decided to take the apprenticeship.
