24 June 2010 - Deputy Mayor celebrates Nail and Beauty learners' achievements

Lambeth Deputy Mayor Councillor, Mrs Christiana Valcarcel, celebrated the achievements of Nail and Beauty learners as they collected their Level 1 certificates at an event in Camden.

TBG Learning Camden and TBG Learning Lambeth came together with special guests from Connexions and Camden Local Authority to present learners with their City & Guilds certificates. 11 learners received certificates and a nail starter kit from their tutor and Mrs Valcarcel. TBG Learning London Regional Manager, Abi Osho, said:

“Many of the young people who come to TBG have previously been disengaged at school and often leave with few or no qualifications; making it difficult for them to access further education or employment. It is so positive to see these young people today receive certificates for nationally recognised qualifications, and wonderful to hear that several of them have now been accepted at college to continue their learning. This event has been a fantastic celebration of what young people can achieve with dedication and guidance.”

Nail and Beauty certificate recipient, Josephine Morondiya, spoke to the audience about her learner journey with TBG, she said: “When I first started the course I was a little unsure of what to expect and whether I would enjoy it. I’ve made many new friends and learnt a lot through the course. I now know what I want to do with my future; I want to set up my own business. I would never have thought I could this before, TBG have given me so much confidence and made me feel like I can achieve this if I work hard.”

The Deputy Mayor Councillor closed the event with and inspirational speech, congratulating the learners and urging them to go forward, aim high and have great success like she has. She also hinted that she would be delighted to be first in line to get her nails done at any new venture the girls undertook.
