West Bromwich Success Stories

Nashart Hussain, 17 years old, LEAP
I came to TBG hoping to get higher qualifications so that I could work within a Business Administration role. While attending TBG I gained the confidence and motivation to push myself to work towards my Literacy and Numeracy qualifications.  I found it difficult at first but I worked hard and was given extra help with work I didn’t understand.
After a few months of hard work I sat my exams and passed, I achieved EDI Literacy Level 1 and Numeracy Level 1, with these results I was now able to go to college.
I enrolled onto a Level 2 Business Studies course at Halesowen College, I hope to achieve my qualification and start my own business.
I would to thank all the staff for giving me the motivation I needed to achieve my qualifications.

Shazia Khatun, 18 years old, LEAP
I left school with no qualifications and no real idea what I wanted to do with my future.  I went to connexions and had a chat with a Personal Advisor, she referred me to TBG Learning where I would work on getting a qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
I came to TBG not really knowing what I wanted to do; I started on the LEAP programme and worked at gaining a qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.  I enjoyed learning and settled in well, making new friends along the way.
After having a chat with the Job Brokers at TBG, I decided I would like to try working in Administration.  I was found a work placement at Aaina (Bangladeshi Community Centre) I enjoyed my time with them but decided I didn’t want to pursue a career in Administration.  I worked hard and gained my qualifications; EDI Level 1 in Literacy and Level 1 in Numeracy.
After a lot of thought I decided that I would like to work with children, I am now at Sandwell College doing an NVQ Level 2 in Child Care and really enjoying it.
Thank you to all the staff at TBG for their help and support.

Nicholas Dawson, 40 years old, Employability Skills Programme
Before starting with TBG Learning I had been previously made redundant and been out of work for a long time.
I really enjoyed the time I spent at TBG Learning as I have been able to improve my literacy and numeracy skills achieving my EDI Level 1 in both. I also completed my City and Guilds Employability Award. I have received loads of support from my tutor and the job brokers as well as the people in my class. I have improved my confidence levels and I am now looking forward to getting back into work.
Before leaving TBG I was put in touch with a Nextsteps advisor who has been able to put me in touch with an organisation who can help me renew my forklift licence. I am hoping that with my new updated skills, CV and improved confidence I am able to get back into work as soon as I can.”

Tutor Comment
"Nicholas has kept regular contact with us since leaving; he has successfully renewed his fork lift truck licence and in April 2010 he notified us that he had successfully gained employment, which he really enjoys."
