  Andrew Conlan-Trant joins third sector providers in New York to launch ‘V20 Group’
Head of TBG Learning, Andrew Conlan-Trant, joined a select group of voluntary sector business leaders in New York to set up a visionary ‘V-20 Group’. The group, put together by the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion (CESI) spent four days in New York fact finding and sharing lessons on how to strengthen the role of the third sector in the delivery of employment services.

  Learning centre refurbishments and openings
Essex learning centres, Colchester and Tendring, are delighted with the completion of two centre refurbishment projects that created modern, interactive and purpose built training rooms for the centres.

  Creating a local buzz
At barely a quarter of the way into the New Year there’s already been a hive of activity happening across TBG Learning’s West Midland centres. To kick start the New Year TBG Learning Sandwell and Dudley took centre stage at a number of training and learning exhibitions hosted across Sandwell and the Black Country. The events, aimed at young people and their parents, offered information, advice and guidance to help them make an informed decision about their future career path.

  In the news: AGE 16-24 and the Youth Contract
A new Apprenticeship Grant for Employers of 16 to 24 year olds (AGE 16 to 24), is aimed at helping employers to offer young people employment through Apprenticeship programmes; by providing wage grants to assist them in recruiting their first apprentice. The National Apprenticeship Service will provide up to 40,000 Apprenticeship Grants each with a value of £1,500.

  All in the name of charity
Every year TBG Learning’s head office team nominate a charity to support and fundraise on behalf of. 2011’s chosen charity was Macmillan Cancer Support. The head office team traditionally raise money through a number of fundraising activities such as dress down days, bake sales, guess the baby competitions and not forgetting the legendary head office tuck shop. 2011 however, saw one head office team member go that step further by setting himself the ultimate challenge.

  Information security – the year of the hack 
2011 was referred to by information security professionals as 'The year of the hack' with major breaches occurring at Sony, TJ Maxx and Honda. A report from security firm Symantec found that the average data breach costs UK firms about £1.9m annually.

  Marketing and Communications update
TBG Learning has been working with PR company, Advent Communications, over the past three months on a project to raise the profile of the company in the media; to in turn build recognition among our customers and stakeholders. The project resulted in 18 online and print news clippings and a radio interview broadcast during National Apprenticeship Week.
