Abdul said that his courses at TBG helped him to gain a lot of experience in computers. He has achieved certificates in IT for Beginners and Level 1 Word Processing. He has also gone on to achieve a credit in Administration. The vast knowledge and skills he acquired along with the understanding and experience provided by his tutors subsequently helped Abdul gain a promotion to supervisory level at work, which required much more use of computers. Abdul’s thirst for knowledge continues and he is currently learning Desk Top Publishing.
Margaret Gray Award for 50+ Learner
When Margaret first came to TBG she had no self-confidence, but after 6 months has learned how to use a computer, fill in application forms and write letters. She has also gained a Health & Safety in the workplace certificate. Her first ever certificate. Margaret has a daughter living in Gran Canaria who is so impressed at how Margaret’s letter writing has improved said it should be her tutor Stephen Smith who should get an award for his time and patience. Margaret feels and hopes that what she has learned at TBG will come in very handy when helping her 8 grandchildren.
Rai Dumbris Award for Computerised English Language Learning
Rai came to England from Lithuania and felt nervous about his ability to speak English properly and of using computers. He overcame both those fears by completing a learndirect computerised language learning course (ELLIS). He then went on to complete a Communication Skills course and has now gained a Level 1 Certificate in Adult Literacy.
Gundulu Sidel Award for English Language Progress
Gundulu came to England from Germany and needed to improve her spoken and written English. Prior to starting the course at TBG Learning she felt she was not really getting anywhere. She feels that without the course at TBG plus the support of the tutor David Soloman and the Recruitment Team she would be in the same position as when she arrived. She now feels there has been a great improvement in her life. She is more confident in communicating in English, whether it’s using the telephone, speaking to friends or applying for jobs.
Pamela Duhig Award for New Beginner
Pamela left school at the age of 15 without any qualifications to start work and be able to help support her family at home. After 5 years she married and had children of her own. When her youngest daughter was 17 and an adult herself, Pamela decided to further her own education choosing to study IT, Maths and English at TBG Learning. Pamela liked working on the computer and wanted to know more, especially as she hoped it would help her to get a job. Pamela had to overcome an extreme lack of confidence just to get the courage to start her courses. Since then she has completed a Learndirect IT Taster course, an IT beginner’s course and now holds an OCR certificate. Currently working towards the next level in IT she feels more confident about taking further courses in the future.
Karel Vain Award for Employment

Frances Gyang - Newham College TBG Learner of the Year
Frances Gyang started an ICT course where she had no clue of using a computer and, at one stage she wanted to give up and not to continue with the course. But we have motivated her to continue with the course and once she realised that this was not as hard as she initially thought Frances then continued with her sessions and from ICT she progressed to Wordprocessing then to E-quals and to E-quals modules where she achieved her qualification on Information and communication Technology.
Joanne Boodle - Newham College TBG Learner of the Year
Joanne Boodle initially started on Surfdirect / ICT on a Sunday class, when it was introduced. Joanne at that time was afraid of handling the mouse and found the course was very difficult for her. Joanne wanted to be withdrawn from the course and went home. I then phoned her and gave her the encouragement to continue and at least to come and see us. We then managed to persuade her to carry on and finally she returned to her course. We continued helping her to progress from ICT to Wordprocessing. After that Joanne progressed to e-quals where she has achieved her goal and got herself an IT qualification.
