Working in partnership with employers, Job Centre Plus - New Deal

Are you looking for new staff? Look no further……TBG Learning is working with JobCentre Plus - New Deal and Employers like you to help people back into employment.

What is New Deal?
The New Deal is a Government funded programme that aims to give unemployed people the help and support they need to access employment. The programme can include short job tasters, work trials, or work experience placements lasting from a few weeks up to 13 weeks in some occupational areas. We need help from employers like you to provide a range of jobs and work placement opportunities that offer real experience of work for individuals accessing our New Deal programmes.

Why choose to work with TBG Learning?
TBG Learning is a well established national training provider with a track record of over 20 years growth and achievement in helping people transform their lives through learning. TBG has developed successful links and partnerships with employers in all sectors of industry and has helped many people re-enter employment.

Programme Information
TBG Learning provides 2,6,13 or 26 week long courses for learners as part of the New Deal Programme. Many of these are targeted on particular occupational sectors. They are all designed to address the problems of long term unemployment through raising an individuals confidence, providing them with skills and qualifications, and helping them to overcome any personal barriers to work that they may be experiencing. As part of these programmes a work placement with a local employer is a vital means of an individual developing their working and social skills, and of them proving that they are work ready.

Job Opportunities
If you have a vacancy we can arrange interviews with potential employees that are already on our courses that match the skills that you require.

Role of the workplacement - you the employer
Taking an individual on work placement provides an ideal opportunity for an employer to trial potential employees or to use the placement to free up other staff for training or developmental activities. There is no financial cost to the employer. The burden is in supplying work and supervision so that the candidate receives real hands on experience as a means of enabling them to develop skills that could enhance their employment opportunities. The work placement should provide a range of appropriate work activities for the candidate which will help them gain experience, confidence and aid their career development and employment prospects. TBG Learning will work with you and the candidate to achieve the best results for all parties.

The candidate could attend the placement for up to 4 days a week, but will need to attend TBG for at least 1 day every week to conduct job search activities. A placement agreement contract would be signed by all parties to confirm days and hours of attendance. Staff from TBG will be in contact on a weekly basis to ensure that the placement is progressing as expected. It is expected that employers would interview candidates before accepting them on placement to ensure that the person is right for the business. TBG would conduct a brief Health and Safety check prior to the placement commencing to ensure our candidate would be working in a safe environment.

Role of TBG Learning
TBG will ensure that the candidate is at a level where they could perform the role for which the placement is being arranged prior to them commencing. TBG would provide on-going support and supervision to ensure that the placement was working for all sides. Before joining your workforce each candidate will receive a briefing about your company, their role whilst on placement, and any expectations. We will also have discussed their commitment to the placement as part of their overall programme.

Camarounnissa Maricar at Iceland
At TBG Learning I have met friendly and helpful staff. They have helped me do jobsearch and prepare myself for work. I got a chance to start a work placement and now I am going to do my best to improve my chances of getting a job. I have something to look forward to and I am happy.

Christine Heron at Peacocks
I was not happy when i was told to start this course at TBG Learning, but now i have a different opinion about TBG and the course. I have been able to use newspapers and the internet to do job search and improve my CV. I have practised interview skills and filling in job application forms. The trainers are hardworking, understanding and approachable; with their help I have been able to get some job interviews and i am now on a placement and hoping to start permanent work soon.

Howard Taylor “I was pleased to have this chance to develop my skills and get a foot back into the jobs market. I began by working in the stock room sorting the donated items ready to go out onto the shop floor and have progressed through to supervising other team members, dealing with the customers, pricing items for sale, operating the till and taking overall responsibility for the shop when the Manager is out”.

"I had been unemployed for about 6 months when my Jobcentre Advisor found a place for me at TBG Learning. Initially I was disappointed there wasn't a specific provision for security work as becoming a licensed security officer was my ambition. I was very enthusiastic to get started and I was found a work placement with a local security company. I also completed my security course and am now in full time employment with Repton Security of Derby. I am really grateful to all the TBG staff who helped me find work in the area I wanted" Biddy Beardsley on his New Deal course experience.

Phillip Howells “After leaving Toyota for health reasons, I decided to change career direction. As I had always enjoyed driving I thought that the Transportation course with TBG Derby would be ideal. TBG staff and tutors gave me all the support and help I needed. The lessons were easy to understand and I achieved an LGV Level 2, plus certificates in Manual Handling, Fire Marshal, First Aid, Health and Safety and Risk Assessment. I updated my CV and staff helped me with letters and finding appropriate jobs to apply for. I now have the relevant qualifications and skills and I’m ready for work!”

Nick Coster “On my first day at TBG I was a little apprehensive as to what to expect, although I knew what I wanted to gain which was a qualification, work experience and ultimately a job. I started the Business Admin programme and with the guidance of my tutor I completed the course work and the exam. A work placement was secured for me at Fern Training and this turned into a full time position as the Administrator for the construction dept.”

Lisa McKibbin “When I first arrived at TBG I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do,with the help of the JCP team of tutors and Job Brokers I gained some focus and was offered a work placement at Jaz the Florist where I gained experience in Admin and Customer Service. With my new found confidence I applied for positions in Admin and I secured an Admin Job at Bishop and Flint Solicitors I now not only have a job but a future.”

Martin Coleborn
We have been working closely with Iceland Foods Plc branch in Gravesend and have had great success with a number of placements who have entered full-time employment. Martin Coleborn who is 19 years old, has been working at Icelands for 6 weeks now, originally taken on as a store assistant has already gained promotion and is training to be a Duty Manager. By his own admission Martin quotes “he couldn’t be bothered when he came first on programme, but now after going on placement he is now able to channel all his energy into his work and cannot wait to learn something new”.

Martin will continue to gain new skills by enrolling on the “Train2Gain”programme allowing him to gain an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service. His Branch Manager Caroline Robinson said “I have found the TBG scheme to be very valuable in helping employ team members for my store. It gives me a longer period of time to get to know how suitable they would be in retail and also gives them more detailed insight to what we do”.
