Newham Success Stories

Peter Campbell with Bilal Ahmed (Recruitment Consultant)Peter Campbell
Peter joined our New Deal Basic Skills Programme on 18th June 2007. Peter, in collaboration with staff, immediately set about following up relevant documents for eligibility to work as a Driver carrying passengers. While waiting for the driving opportunity to come through Peter worked closely with TBG Staff to submit applications for other jobs while at the same time improving his Literacy skills.

While on the course Peter attended punctually and regularly. He would always inform staff of any off-site appointments. Peter enjoyed cordial relations with fellow participants as well as staff and was a good example of a team player.

TBG staff was soon able to develop mutual trust and understanding with Peter and therefore he kept staff informed of his progress in job search at every stage. With the help of his Recruitment Consultant, Skills for Life Tutor and the Employability Skills Tutors he was able to receive the support that he required and deserved. He now works in the public sector, for a very reputable company as a Bus Driver and thoroughly enjoys it.

As an organisation we regard Peter as a positive example of how genuine commitment, dedication and effort are a sure means of achieving a desired result. As with our other achievers we take great pride in being associated with the success that Peter Campbell achieved on our programme.

Mohamed with fellow class matesMohamed Noor Mohamed
Mohamed previously worked as a chef in an Indian restaurant and was then unemployed for over six months. He had always wanted to start his own business but wanted to improve his English to help him to achieve this.

After taking an English course with TBG Learning he set up his own wholesale business purchasing food from all over the UK and distributing it to local stores. He named his business Munna UK Limited after his daughter to reflect the importance of family in his career.

Maria Valberg
"Today is my first day in a full time temporary position in the Tower Hamlets branch of TBG-Learning! I cannot express how I am feeling because what is happening feels like a dream come true.

Maria with her tutor and other class matesI came to the UK from Russia in 1999. I did not speak any English at all. As you can imagine it was a very difficult time leaving my home and loved ones behind.

In May 2004 I began a WBLA ESOL course of study at the Newham branch of TBG Learning, like many other students who wanted to find a job and improve their English. After 2 months on the course I was offered work experience placement as an Administration Assistant. It was fantastic! I enjoyed it so much and considered it a great opportunity to gain some knowledge about office life and decide if this was going to be the right career area for me. During my time on placement I continued to study to improve my English and computer skills. I have also made some great friends and become much more confident. I feel so very grateful to all the TBG staff for their faith in me and for all the help and support they have given.

So you see, why today, my first day in my new job, is such a special day for me! I am a bit nervous but oh so very happy! TBG Learning gave me a chance to prove to myself that I can do something. This is my fresh start. A new page in my life! I want to be proud of myself and I will do my best!"
