West London Success Stories
Sanjay Bazaz
Sanjay Bazaz has been learning in the West London centre since July 2003.
He works for the local Sainbury's who have been very supportive of his learning.
Sanjay has learning difficulties which have been exacerbated by unhappy experiences at school. When he came in 2003, he was lacking in self-confidence and extremely shy. He was afraid to mix with other learners and needed constant support from the one tutor with whom he felt comfortable. Now, Sanjay is relaxed and confident, mixes easily with other learners and staff. He seeks to help others and is a role model for other learners in his diligence and enthusiasm for learning.
Although he has taken longer than the average to complete courses, he has persisted and completed 32 Skills for Life - Numeracy - courses including Cash Crescent and Numbers Direct Although it is unlikely that he will reach the level to attempt the National Tests (and we wouldn't want him to experience failure), he has moved onto IT courses which he is greatly enjoying. With some extra help, we believe he should achieve a Level 1 ICT qualification.
"I am very happy at TBG Learning. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and I have learned a lot. I like Learndirect because I can work at my own speed and the courses are very easy to follow."
The increasing confidence that success in learning has given Sanjay has carried over into his working life and he is making good progress. His employers are very pleased with his progress and have given him opportunities to develop within the store.
Jagtar Singh
“My name is Jagtar Singh. I was born in Afghanistan on 11/11/1968.
When I was seven years old I went to school. I was doing well and my dream was to be a doctor and that’s why I studied hard. Unfortunately, as a Sikh in a Muslim country, I was bullied at the school and left after three years.
I then went to study the textile business and, when I was sixteen or seventeen, my father gave me a textile shop which I ran successfully until 2003. In October of that year I came to seek asylum in England: the situation for Sikhs in Afghanistan had become very difficult. I was granted leave to remain and came to London in April 2005.
In June 2005, I came to TBG Learning in West London to learn English. At TBG the teachers are very good, helpful and friendly so I have learned quickly. As I studied English, I felt my dreams coming true and now life is very easy for me because I can speak, read, write and understand English very well. For that I want to thank my teachers Beth and Magdalena and all the staff of TBG.
Thank you.”
