A working mum from East London who has dedicated 18 years of her life to helping young people get into work and back into education, has received a ‘Long Service Award’ from her employer.
Gillian Hislop, who works for TBG Learning in Barking, has spent her career working with East London’s young people on the entry to employment (e2e) course, which is for 16 -18 year olds who are not currently in education, employment or training.
Prior to joining TBG, Gillian studied for a Business and Technician Education Course (BTEC) at Barking College. After leaving college she worked in a Clothes Factory, and then as a Junior Receptionist for Latchborder UK. She spent two years brining up her son, before moving on to TBG Learning.
Sue Gidman, TBG Learning Operations Director, said of ‘Gillian’:
“Gillian’s commitment and dedication to TBG, and in particular to the learners has been outstanding. She is a stalwart member of the East London Team and continues to inspire her colleagues and learners alike.”
Gillian is a working mum, and all of her spare time is taken up by looking after her four-year old daughter. On her award, ‘Gillian’ commented:
“It has been rewarding working with the 16-18 year olds on the e2e course, especially seeing the learners who have progressed into further education or employment through the help and support of TBG. It has also been nice to see learners still keeping in contact with TBG by visiting the staff at the centre.”
The entry to employment course is a 22-week programme that helps with confidence boosting and skills development, through a range of qualifications and work experience, and job search techniques. Learners receive individual help and support to reach agreed progression targets, whether they are employment, an apprenticeship, or further training.
Frank Xavier, Barking Learning Centre Manager commented:
“The programme boosts the confidence and self belief of the learners, and gives them the support they need to get back on track with their future. If you are 16-18, and you didn’t get the qualifications you were hoping for, come down and see us”
The Long Service awards were hosted by Rehab Group, parent company of TBG Learning and were held at The Thistle Hotel in Marble Arch in London’s West End. Nine TBG Learning employees received long service awards for over 10 years and over 15 years service with the company.
