Giving Education A Second Chance
Tuesday 25th March 2008
Young people in Southall are snapping up the opportunity to get on track
with their future. The TBG Learning Centre in Windmill Place Business Centre,
Southall, has enrolled 43 young people on its Entry 2 Employment (e2e)
programme in the first three months since the centre opened.
The 22-week programme is specifically designed for 16-18 year olds who are not currently in education, employment or training, and who need help to get back on track. The scheme helps with confidence boosting and skills development, through a range of qualifications, work experience, and job search techniques. Learners receive individual help and support to reach agreed progression targets, whether they are employment, an apprenticeship, or further training.
Sara Khan, from Southall, said:
“I didn’t manage to pass my GCSE’s so I came here to TBG Learning. I am learning all sorts of things that are going to help me find a job, and importantly, become more confident in myself. I have three interviews lined up for Apprenticeships already which my tutors are helping me prepare for. I have made lots of new friends and would like to thank everyone at TBG Learning for giving me a second chance.”
Deborah Walton, Manager, TBG Learning Southall added:
“We are delighted that there have been so many young people enrol on courses here in Southall. It is their choice to give education another chance, and we do everything we can to help them get off the streets and achieve their potential. This is excellent news for themselves, and for the area.”
The centre also offers the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), basic literacy and numeracy certificates, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
All training provided leads to a nationally recognised and accredited qualification, and all courses are backed by the Learning and Skills Council. TBG Learning works closely with organisations such as Job Centre Plus, and Learn Direct.
