Top Award for TBG Learning
20th June 2008
Independent training company TBG Learning, which has seven centres across
London, has been named ‘Provider of the Year’ at the 2008 Skills for London Awards, held on 4th June at London’s Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
The awards, organised by the Learning and Skills Council, were presented by TV celebrity Fearne Cotton, and Skills Minister David Lammy MP.
TBG Learning has centres in Barking, Camden, Brixton, Newham, Ealing, Southall and Tower Hamlets, employing over 150 tutors and staff who are training nearly 5,000 Londoners. These centres offer education and training, including employability skills and employment-related programmes across some of London’s most deprived boroughs, serving the individual needs of local communities. Courses on offer include Skills for Life (Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL), and Apprenticeships.
Darren Avery, centre manager for both the Tower Hamlets and Newham centres, and who accepted the award on behalf of TBG Learning commented:
"The award is testimony to all the hard work and effort TBG Learning staff put in to deliver a high quality service to our learners and employers. Internally we have always known this to be the case but it is even better to know that this has been recognised externally by the Learning and Skills Council. TBG Learning's mission is improving people's lives through learning. I believe this award is proof that this is really what we do!"
Sue Gidman, TBG Learning Operations Director commented:
“Programmes are delivered by committed, qualified staff who make effective learning fun. None of our learners are compelled to learn, so we ensure they want to continue, enjoy themselves and see the benefits of the experience”.
She continued:
“Staff are engaged and motivated because they know that they play a significant part in helping our learners to succeed. Tutors can arrange the way they work and take learners out to Museums or Libraries as part of their training. As a result people feel empowered to help learners as they feel is best.”
TBG Learning offers fully flexible learning, with roll-on, roll-off programmes: start dates every week; evening and weekend opening times to accommodate learners’ needs. To ensure they are on the appropriate course at the right level, a thorough Initial Assessment and Diagnostic process is administered with all learners and assessment is on-going during their induction period and throughout the life of the programme.
