APPRENTICE A “PERFECT INSPIRATION” TO OTHERS

Tuesday 20 September 2005

A young Derby man, Chris Dempsey, has reaped the rewards of hard work and dedication to succeed by completing his Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship qualifications in just eighteen months. Now his training provider, TBG Learning, have recruited Chris to help inspire and lead other young people through the Apprenticeship programme.

Chris, aged 21, who lives in Allestree, joined men’s outfitters Brigdens in Derby in 2002 but didn’t start any formal training in customer service until the beginning of last year. His Apprenticeship/Advanced Apprenticeship in Customer Service involved training and assessment in the workplace at level 2 and 3, which are equivalent to two ‘A’ Levels, with guidance from TBG Learning’s Craig Barber.

He started this month as a Trainee Assessor at TBG Learning and will qualify for his Professional Assessor Award within the next nine months.

“The quality of Chris’s course work was excellent. During his Apprenticeship he was promoted by Brigdens and had responsibility across several stores, all of which gave him tremendous experience to help him achieve his qualifications and be the perfect inspiration to others”, said TBG Learning’s Craig Barber.

Chris Dempsey said:
“This is a new challenge for me and I’m enjoying every minute of my new job. The Apprenticeship is a fantastic route to qualify in any work sector and I’ll be coaching other young people to help them achieve their qualifications”.

TBG Learning’s Employer Division in the East Midlands currently has over 250 Apprentices/employed young people aged 16 – 24 and hopes to start a further 250-300 Apprentices over the next twelve months in work sectors such as Customer Service, Business Administration, Team Leading, Retail, ITQ, Warehousing and Hospitality. The programmes are funded by Derby and Leicester Learning and Skills Councils.
