LUCKY COLCHESTER MAN WINS COMPUTER PRIZE
Thursday 23 June 2005
Paul Green of Straight Road, Colchester, has made a dream start in his ambition to learn computer skills. Paul, age 23 and unemployed, won a personal computer in a competition run by private training provider TBG Learning, whose learning centre is in Southway, Colchester. Anyone aged over sixteen who signed up for a course during a promotion in Culver Square in Adult Learners Week last month, was entered for the free prize draw.
Paul called into TBG Learning last week (16 June) to collect his prize from Operations Manager, Terry Windsor.
“It’s the first time I’ve been into TBG Learning and I’m really going to need the computer course now”, said Paul.
Over 250 people are currently signed up to a free computer course at the TBG Learning centre, which offers everything from ‘switching on’ for the complete beginner to the advanced level European Computer Driving License, for which TBG Learning is a recognised test centre. Courses run in the day, evening and at week-ends and are tutored by highly qualified staff. A further 100 people are dropping in to use the learndirect suite, where they can use computers to do online courses at any time.
TBG Learning also runs the entry to employment (e2e) course for 16 – 18 year old school leavers. A personal CD player is on offer currently to every school leaver who signs up, with achievement bonuses during the course for attaining nationally recognised qualifications.
All courses are free to learners because they are funded through the Learning and Skills Council and through TBG Learning’s other local partners, Colchester Institute and Jobcentre Plus. All the courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications and are helping to achieve Government targets of raising skill and qualification levels.
