A Braintree-based employer has praised a new apprenticeship programme and thinks other businesses could benefit from it.

The company, Show Carriage, was the first to take advantage of a new Government-funded apprenticeship training scheme specifically designed for the logistics and warehousing sector when is was first launched last autumn.

New recruit Mark Croxson, who joined last year, has been learning about all aspects of the exhibition and freight industry both in the warehouse and the office as well as at events, and will gain his apprenticeship qualification on completion of the training and on-the-job assessment.

The scheme is being provided by TBG Learning, one of the largest independent training companies for post-16 training in Essex providing Apprenticeships in a variety of areas including Administration, Customer Service, IT and Logistics. Show Carriage, a firm specialising in exhibitions and live events, was recommended to TBG Learning by Business Link, which have been working with the company.

Bryon Wyton, office manager at Show Carriage says of the scheme, "Not only will Mark expand his knowledge of logistics and warehousing, he will also achieve a recognised qualification to help further his career".

Apprenticeships across a wide range of sectors are aimed at young people and their employers and offer the opportunity for 16 to 24 year old employees to train and gain qualifications in their jobs with funding provided by LSC Essex.

The TBG Learning apprenticeship courses are run from the workplace with a qualified assessor visiting every few weeks to provide on-going advice and guidance to assess progress.
