A training centre that opened recently to help people in a Nottingham job black spot has already helped ten local unemployed people to pass new qualifications in English and maths. TBG Learning is aimed at people living in Hyson Green and Forest Fields, where unemployment levels are high.
Ali Akbar, age 26 (pictured) who’s unemployed and from Forest Fields, was the first learner to pass a test at the centre, gaining his National Test in Literacy at Level 2 (equivalent to a GCSE in English at grade A - C). He’s now attending classes for his Level 2 in Numeracy and wants to go onto college.
TBG Learning is an independent training company and courses are free because they are helping to increase qualifications and boost employment prospects. Call in at The Foxhall Business Centre in Foxhall Road, off of Gregory Boulevard. Or telephone 0115 845 6506.
The new centre is accredited by Learndirect, the Government’s drive to increase skill and qualification levels through online learning, making available hundreds of courses to follow online. It is equipped with 18 personal computers and there are two dedicated tutors to assist with improving levels of literacy and numeracy and gaining qualifications that are recognised by local employers.
TBG Learning was recently awarded Grade 1 (‘outstanding’) in several areas during a national inspection by the Adult Learning Inspectorate, including for its approach to equality of opportunity. Its results position it in the top 3% of training providers nationally.
