Glenda Jackson MP Opens New Centre
4th December 2006
Glenda Jackson, Member of Parliament for Hampstead and Highgate, officially opened the new TBG Learning centre in Highgate Road, Camden last week (1st December). She met some of the 35 unemployed 16-18 year-olds who are gaining new employment skills and enjoyed a manicure from one of the beauty therapy learners, seventeen-year-old Sam Summers from Camden.
“It’s very exciting here and the centre is physically attractive. All the students I met are enthusiastic and getting a lot out of what they are learning. I’d encourage anyone to come along and check it out”, said Glenda Jackson MP, who stayed for nearly two hours chatting to learners and tutors.
The TBG Learning centre is at Linton House, 39-51 Highgate Road. Telephone 0207 485 1677 or drop in for further information. Opening times are 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 10am – 4pm Saturdays.
Beauty therapy is one of a variety of courses the young people can choose from and all of them attend classes to improve their literacy and numeracy. Other options include Customer Care and Information Technology, all leading to recognised qualifications. Qualified tutors provide advice and practical help in guiding the young learners on their next step, whether choosing a college course, Apprenticeship programme, or employment.
TBG Learning Camden is also an accredited Life in the UK Test Centre and has a Learndirect suite, where anyone can drop in to do courses online, with support from qualified tutors.
The Adult Learning Inspectorate, responsible for inspecting all Government funded learning for people aged over 16, recently gave the new Camden Centre, one of 12 TBG Learning Centres nationally, a glowing report, as part of an inspection of the independent training company. It awarded Grade 1 ‘outstanding’ in several areas, including for its effective management and promotion of equality and diversity. TBG Learning has earned a reputation for being highly successful in attracting and motivating learners of all ages and abilities and from all sections of the community including minority ethnic groups.
