Blue skies ahead for Sharon from Swindon

Sharon joined the Work Programme at TBG Learning Swindon in November 2014 and had not worked for some time and although she was eager to work, Sharon lacked confidence.

Sharon required employability skills training so she discussed the courses available at TBG Learning with her advisor. Sharon was eager to get her confidence back so she attended an employability skills course and this raised her confidence
immensely.

Sharon also required help with her Maths skills and enrolled onto a Maths course which she completed and passed successfully.

During this time, Sharon had devastating news; she lost her father. Sharon opened up to her advisor Helga, who was able to discuss this and offer support, advice and guidance to help Sharon deal with the programmes requirements whilst she was grieving.

Sharon was eager to gain a food hygiene certificate and was therefore enrolled on the hospitality course at TBG Learning. During the hospitality course, Sharon was told about a part time cleaning role with a local company. Sharon was prepped by Helga before the interview, which she attended and was successful. Sharon was very excited about working again; however, with it being a four hour per week part time role, she still wanted more.

Interviews were held at the end of the hospitality course by Sky Blue Solutions, a local agency looking for housekeepers at the local hospital. A group assessment was held which can prove very daunting. The hospitality group at TBG Learning all had a preparation session prior to the assessment.

Sharon attended and the feedback given about her was that she came across very well and that she had the essential listening and communication skills they were looking for.

Sharon has now been offered employment through Sky Blue Solutions and is just waiting for a start date.

Well done Sharon and good luck with your new role.

I would say to anyone who’s thinking of joining TBG Learning that it’s a great opportunity to take. I felt that my life wasn’t really going anywhere because I felt that I couldn’t achieve anything, but TBG Learning got me motivated.

It’s nothing like school, they treat you like young adults and are all really friendly and are there to help you and support you in whatever way they can.
