Local Swindon man embraces the Work Programme and lands a great job

Kevin joined the Work Programme with TBG Learning in Swindon in July 2015. He was out of work for 16 months prior to joining the Work Programme. When Kevin first joined the programme he felt nervous as he did not know what to expect. Kevin was unsure as to what the programme could do to help him gain employment but as time went on, he relaxed and embraced the help that his advisor Helga gave him.

As he had been out of employment for quite some time, Kevin felt that his CV was out of date and his skills had slipped. Because of this, Kevin was happy to attend the training sessions that TBG Learning had to offer him. These sessions included CV writing, interview techniques, confidence and motivation. Kevin was also happy to take on training that would help him gain qualifications that in turn would help him gain employment.

Kevin was put forward for various roles but unfortunately he wasn’t successful. He had an interview for a housekeeping role at the Great Weston Hospital (GWH) through Sky Blue Solutions; however he didn’t shine as we know he could have done in the group interview. Kevin then went on to the facilities course run by TBG Learning’s ‘Work Ready’ team in which he did very well. At the end of the course, Helen Saunders of TBG Learning had arranged for Sky Blue Solutions to come back to the centre to hold further interviews for the GWH housekeeping roles.

Kevin went in for a one-to-one interview with Sky Blue Solutions. After his interview, they gave feedback to him and his advisor. Kevin had given a good interview, however there were a few of issues that needed addressing so Kevin and his advisor Helga sat down and did just that; Kevin Persevered.

After addressing the issues, Kevin attended another group interview, this time for the local hospital. He was happy to find out that he’d been successful.

Kevin said that he found the support from his advisor and TBG Learning extremely helpful and that had Helga not motivated him to attend courses, he would probably still be looking for a job.

Good luck Kevin!
